I'd pick a city over island holiday anytime. I'm a city girl, I think I've always been one.
Don't know what got into my head when I started searching for a 'rainforest retreat' and found this place (Royal Belum Resort) on Booking.com and instantly decided I had to go. Also because it was quite a fair deal, haha.

This view greeted us after a 4 hours drive from KL to Grik - naturally curated trees filled the surrounding. I loved the fact that the entire resort is well preserved with lots of greens and the humming of crickets and frogs echoes along as we stroll side-by-side in the walkways.

Our entire 3D2N stay was nothing short of amazing. The hospitality was great, we're always greeted with friendly smiles and cheerful hello's from the receptionist until the housekeeping staff. We were out in the lake, bamboo rafting and was welcomed with a jolly wave from the recreational crew as his speed boat raced past us. Hospitality: 10/10

D left his sunnies by the pool and only realised it the next morning - reported it to the receptionist and got it sent to our room, still in its primitive condition less than half an hour later. Efficiency: 10/10

Few days before the trip, I googled the resort and found a few comments on some travel websites. Amidst the many positive remarks, I couldn't help but to notice a few discussion on the lack of internet connection and food choices. The food served in the resort was repetitive and expensive and the nearest town is 30 minutes drive away. The kiasu side in me made a mental note to pack food and a portable electric cooker so we wouldn't starve. Chinese-level: 10

Turns out, we didn't need no cooker at all. Actually broke the cooker, too noob to operate one, sorry Mom. Our package comes with complimentary breakfast and the food was decent. Had their buffet spread for dinner and walked back to the room 2kg heavier. Food was that yummy, or maybe we were just greedy. Price-wise, okay-la. If you could afford a  cafe's big breakfast, this is nothing. Plus, you're on a holiday, give yourself a break. Meal: 8/10

Best part of the trip? Got our Superior room upgraded to a Deluxe. Accommodation: F YEAH

Superior is just a basic room with no entertainment system eg TV. We initially planned to sign up for the outdoor activities and watch DVDs on our laptop to kill time.  But since we were rewarded with a posh Deluxe room which comes complete with a freaking bathtub and exposed shower (not complaining though) PLUS TV, we didn't mind staying in the room, doing nothing at all.

Recommended for those who would like to escape from the concrete jungle and wouldn't mind driving all the way till the other end. Like literally, the border of Thailand is not too far away, I suppose. Overall experience: Awesome

If only I could go to the waterfall, too.
